Basically put this is the snapshot on video cards for RIGHT NOW, and it WILL change in the next month, or so (both Nvidia and ATI/AMD attempt to refresh 3-4 times a year...)
In single card, Nvidia is tops, barely, right now. In FPS, not so in quality of graphics (ATI has had that sown up for a while.) That probably will change soon.
I do not buy Nvidia cards due to their poor practices. I had a good laptop, with an Nvidia video chip. Nvidia KNEW the chip was bad (the solder was incorrect, and would fail after long periods of heat exposure.) Did they do a recall? No. They sent a software update that ran the system fan at higher speeds, so the chip would last just long enough for the warranty to expire. Did they get caught? Yes. They got sued for it. So, Nvidia was able to forum shop, and got a Judge that had ZERO idea about computers. They then got the Judge to agree to allow them to replace all the laptops, including the $7500+ ones, with a $249 Compaq. So, in effect, they screwed their customers, twice. Oh, and since MY laptop was a "special order," I got nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. And was barred from suing by the class action suit, due to Nvidia's lawyers slipping another fast one on the same Judge. And now you know why Cadaver does not recommend Nvidia, and HP.
