HL2.exe has stopped working

Help Request Subject: HL2.exe crashes when playing games

Specific people needed to read this: Anyone who knows how to fix it

Summarize help request in one sentence: Sometimes, playing in source games, they will crash with the message hl2.exe has stopped responding, which has happened so much to me in Battlegrounds 2 that I can't play it.

Additional Info: Windows 7, 64-bit, HomePremium edition. Reinstalling games doesn't work. Couldn't find anything on the internet that actually worked

try
turn multicore rendering off in the options menu if it's on

my css would crash all the time with HL2.exe due to multicore rendering so when i turned it off it stopped the crashes

 I don't even have the option of turning that on.

I think because I am on a laptop for some reason
