What if the art for his YouTube channel was considered as a CG product (in that the person who he bought the art from was representing CG) and he just donated the money straight to CG? Or would that not work.

Honestly that rule might vanish in the future. We can let it slide for now but CG holds zero responsibility that the user actually pays you. Do at your own discretion.
