Tell us some of the things you like, my list of good shit is super long and might as well save us the trouble of listing shit you won't like.
Except Azumanga Daioh. (The english dub is awwwwwfuuuuullll it sucks so bad they make one of the girls sound like a texas redneck so make sure you watch it with subtitles instead!)
It may look stupid but it is one of the funniest anime ever made and if you like anime and don't like Azumanga Daioh you are dead to me.
The compilation book of the entire manga it is based on is the size of a bible, and is also really good, but not as good as the show because reasons.

If you haven't seen them, here are some:
- Ouran High school host club (The best reverse harem ever created)
- Code Geass (just watch it)
- Sword Art Online (LN's for this were a nice read)
- Infinite Stratos (I enjoyed it)
- Kotoura-san
- Steins Gate (if you give this a chance and dont drop after episode 3, this anime will be worth)
oh and obviously
- Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)
I don't really know what you are looking for, as recommendations go, so here are just a few I like. I have a few lists of things I've watched in the passed few years, so if you want more just ask.

Cromartie High School (anime) - Really great all around comedy. I would probably regard this as the most funny anime out there. Watch this one dubbed.
WataMote (both) - Newer series, great comedy that most internet lurkers can relate to.
Oyasumi Punpun (manga) - This series is pretty dark. Starts off as a coming of age but things get pretty grim. A must read if you like dark, long reads.
Aku no Hana (both) - Somewhat dark tone as well except this one is more down to earth and doesn't get quite as bad as Oyasumi. Manga is somewhat better and quite a bit longer.
Usagi Drop (anime) - Really heartwarming series. Nice artstyle and a must see if you like some of the sad/heartwarming type shows.
Samurai Champloo (anime) - If you have seen or liked Cowboy Bebop you may like this quite a bit. Basically a spiritual successor to CB although it's not as serious and obviously drastically different setting.
What shows have you seen so far? I could probably recommend more if I knew what you watched but I don't want to be throwing a bunch out that you probably already seen xD

Surprised nobody posted Gintama. It's a funny anime once you get a few episodes in, as a bunch of the first few episodes are character introduction and an attempt to make an Action anime instead of the comedy one it has today.
Still airing today I think (There's no Dub)

Seriously though, this is way more entertaining and silly than anything should ever be.
If you take it seriously, god help you.

I was going to say Gintama, I fucking love Gintoki and his crew and they keep making me laugh.
Theres Also Bebob
Spice and Wolf
Kuroshitsuji II if you haven't seen it.
Robotech (I find it funny due to the actors voices and how they all look like versions of shaggy. Some good action scenes too.)
I heard Eyeshield is good, haven't read it personally.
If you liked Rosario there is: Is this a zombie?

I'd say start with Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Molk put it perfect, its an easy series to approach and wrap your head around.
Code Geass would be the next series after that. Much more at stake, better character development, things get crazy in the second season, and it has a mix of everything in it.
