Your next post better be about how to fix the server pointing out everything that needs to be changed in one post or drop the hostile passive aggressive twist my arm behind my back tactics.

It's not the map selection if everything we try doesn't work. I've seen a 3-4 map rotation pipeline work BEAUTIFULLY before, if we can't do it, there's something wrong with the server, the name, or the lack of people who know about it outside of CG. That last one being the most probable, IMO.
This whole thing is a travesty.

For starters, Pillz is obviously the sexiest.

Self population isn't too much of an issue at times, but it just requires that the server have around 6 people before people start joining.

Okay. Wholegrain.

Today I got on and invited some people. It went pretty well, was populating and up to 12 people, but suddenly.

SERVER CRASHES.

Okay, no biggie, get back on, some people rejoin.

up to 10..

SERVER CRASHES

Well fuck.

One last time.. Let's get on, ehhh

6 people..

FUCK IT CRASHES AGAIN.

Is there something up with TF2 on the box? Since it's not client side. Everyone is crashing.

you obviously don't understand what i was getting at in that statement so let me write it out in colorful crayon

I am willing probably removing fast respawn and alltalk isn't going back to vanilla or at least a start than im not sure what you are getting at.

I gave 24/7 frontier literally 6 hours so don't even play that card.  I am looking for something self populating and we tried it and it didn't work.
Your next post better be about how to fix the server pointing out everything that needs to be changed in one post or drop the hostile passive aggressive twist my arm behind my back tactics.

Don't try pulling that bullshit. I was bringing up a serious issue I had with you in a mature manner, then you imply I'm stupid, and that you need to spell shit out in crayons for me to understand it, then you pull this authoritative bullshit and tell ME to behave?

Maybe I misunderstood your statement about the TF2 game mode mods being a last resort, the tone of your post made it seem like you were shooting down my vanilla suggestion in favor of doing anything and everything else first.

Fifteen second respawn IS fast respawn. The problem here is that you'd rather try making the server a 24/7 Frontier server for six hours than try to make it a vanilla server for thirty minutes.

From the very beginning, I've suggested ditching fast respawn. You'd give an inch. You wouldn't just say "Maybe you're right, we'll give it a shot for a day or two." you'd say "Well, I'll add a few seconds to the respawn," which doesn't solve the issue at all. It in no way addressed the problem I had.

Obviously though, the problem is clearly the server's stability, as Simplex pointed out, not the type of server we're running. Once we take care of that then we can start addressing anything else that might be causing population issues.

It's also worth noting that the little adventure Simplex had happened over the course of just an hour, maybe two hours at the most. It's a pretty big issue we need to fix.

Still don't see any clear definite things to pull out of that to change the server to more vanilla

As for the server crashing I am not sure i know their was a problem before where if someone left the control panel open it sometimes just restarted the server.  Im going to go check logs though just to make sure nobody was just stopping and starting it.

What type of crash like the server crashed or all the clients crashed out ?

I looked at the logs only saw it restart between 2-4 pm which was a glitch mainly

None vanilla things about our TF2 server that could stand to be experimented with:
- Respawn time
- Humiliation round time
- Map voting system (The biggest complaint being that it changes maps abruptly in the middle of a game)
- Number of rounds-per-map

None of these things are particularly detrimental, but when added together I think the server experience can be pretty unpleasant. I can't be the only person who experiences bad feelings when the humiliation round is cut short, or the map changes mid-game. And more than three rounds on a map is stretching it pretty long. I think that could be playing a role in the absence of players; they get bored of the same map for like six rounds in a row and change servers.

And of course, I don't have to explain the negative effects of modified respawn time.

When the server crashed we would all just time-out and lose the connection. I'm not sure if people rejoined before me, or if it only affected some of the players. It should be investigated, though. It happens to me quite often, even on TTT, but until the other day I assumed I just had a finicky connection or something.

Having 'Vanilla' in the server's name and tags would definitely bring it more traffic. It's hard for me to find Vanilla servers anymore, there aren't many servers that include 'Vanilla' in their tags. I think the respawn time should be set to default, the map selection should include some of the original maps, and rounds per map should be lowered. Playing the same map over and over gets old quick, especially if it's something like Frontier.

I'm going to try to play a bit more, for the last couple weeks I've been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead and Gmod.

I'm the only one in the server right now, and it's 9:30 EST. The server should have a good amount of people.

I assumed the vanilla settings are created when you remove any modified values from the server. I wasn't aware you had to actually set them up.

I think that is the only variable i really need to look up i thought i changed it a while ago apparently not
