General Gaming Talk / Coming soon to a CG server near you....
« on: January 22, 2013, 10:40:24 AM »
Alright guys, here is a bit of info for the Natural Selection 2 server, and some updates Jorgen and I will be rolling out over the course of the next couple of weeks:

  • Fixing the administrative mod to display the rules, and information about the server properly.
  • New maps! Playing the same six or maps can get tiring, so we're in the process of reviewing some of the more commonly used community made maps now, and deciding which to add to the server. We want to ensure both that they are balanced and fun to play.
  • Fine tweaking some of the items currently on the server as to create the best balance possible, and if you feel that something is overpowered or underpowered, make a thread in this subsection with your argument as to why. With your guys' input, we can decide what we feel would be the best course in terms of balance for our server.

The first map we shall be adding will be http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=114461560&searchtext=
If it receives enough positive attention it will be staying.

The Art Forum / Signature of the week contest!
« on: January 20, 2013, 05:37:29 AM »
Alright lady's and germs, this is something I've been wanting to do within CG for awhile.

If enough people who know how/have the capability to, wanna start doing SotW contests, I think we as a community should start it up. My idea is to have one guest host pick the theme every week, ie, A game of Thrones, 16 bit gaming, etc. All of the artists will submit their works anonymously to them, and then we shall have a community poll for the signatures. Voting and the creators of the images will stay anonymous to prevent any sort of favoritism.

Solved Applications / Kwaurtz NS2 application
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:05:34 AM »
Were you recommended by an admin? If so state the name: N/A

In game name: (=CG=)Kwaurtz

Link to your steam page: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Kwaurtz1228

Steam ID: STEAM_0:0:35417646

Do you have past admin experience: A lot actually, including past Tf2 Head Admin for CG, former CL, and former Veteran admin status

Why you wish to be admin: Currently we have no admins for the NS2 server besides the CL's and Towersheep. I know that for both me, and them, when theres an issue that needs to be addressed, its a kind of a hassle for them to have to stop what they are doing, and then come fix it. Its also not a stressful admin position like TTT is, and requires barely any sort of actual action aside from dealing with afk's, the occasional troll, and those whom may use inappropriate language.

What are some good qualities you possess: I've grown up a bit, and while I still maintain a firm stance on a lot of issues, I've learned to be somewhat lenient and friendly towards those even whom I may disagree with at times, except bronies...

What country are you from: 'Murica

Age:21

Microphone: Yeah, although some of you may wish or want otherwise.

Additional Notes:I'm aware that I've had shaky history here in CG, and that some people may still feel uneasy around me. However, I've been trying to push and help the NS2 server since the day it was created, and I tried to push for its launch originally with Jorgen, Tvan, and Innershea. I'm familiar with the readme for the Administration mod we use as well.

GarrysMod / An issue we need to talk about...

There is a way to abuse the extra commands in garry's mod to force you to hit shitboxes. Other communities have started to ban this, why haven't we here at CG?

The Black Dahlia Murder is an American metal band from Waterford, Michigan, formed in 2000. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. The band comprises vocalist Trevor Strnad, guitarists Brian Eschbach and Ryan Knight, bassist Max Lavelle and drummer Shannon Lucas. Out of their five studio albums, the latest four of them charted on the US Billboard 200, with 2009's Deflorate peaking at No. 43 and their latest album Ritual reaching No. 31.

The Black Dahlia Murder have been stated to play within the genres of melodic death metal, metalcore, and deathcore. The band's music makes use of the melodic death metal sound, but containing high speeds, blast beats and occasional growled vocals. Influences for the band include groups such as Carcass, At the Gates, Darkane, Dissection, Darkthrone, Morbid Angel, The Haunted, In Flames, Dimension Zero, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera and Megadeth. Vocalist, Trevor Strnad has cited on many occasions that he primarily influenced by Carcass in vocalizing technique.

When asked to describe what kind of music the band plays, Strnad commented: "I've always said that we're melodic death metal. We are mostly influenced by Swedish bands and Carcass. The heavy end of our sound is the American style creeping in, with some Floridian influences like Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation and that kind of stuff. We've been labeled more often because of our look than our sound, which is dumb, and speaks volumes about what kind of geniuses are out there!" However, in an interview with Uranium Magazine, Strnad also stated, "Some bands that get labeled as metalcore are actually good, like Between the Buried and Me or The Red Chord. Metal is what I grew up with, and then I learned about punk and hardcore. But a lot of our ethics, the way we carry ourselves, is more punk...I like that hardcore has a sense of community without the competition you see in metal."

These guys are one of the few bands who can evolve their sound, but still remain the same group that I love listening to.

General Gaming Talk / CG DOTA 2 INHOUSE YEAH
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:39:55 PM »
So, as I peer around the community, I spy a fact that makes me happy. We have enough members to do a CG only game. Now,  we need to iron out some facts, IE, when would the best time be and who wants to jump in. So, with that said, if you feel like participating in this include the following

If you want to participate:
The best days/times:
Would you prefer captains mode, or reverse captains mode?

I think this'll be fun for everyone involved.

Zombie Master / Take this server down

The ZM server has become more of a liability than a resource at this point and should be taken down as we further expand into newer games.

General Gaming Talk / I'm going to attempt to make some CG Civilzations!
« on: December 06, 2012, 05:44:30 PM »
For those of us who love to play civ v, I wanted to try my hand at developing our own civilizations.

Some rough ideas are like this:

Irishbandit: +2 food from non animal resources. +1 production from animal resources.

Kwaurtz: +15% food and 5% production, every military unit on the board under your control decreases this bonus.

Yahtzee: Luxury Resources provide 50% increase in happiness, population unhappiness decreased by 25%.

I need your help though coming up with ideas!
