Title: Grief protect fire

So, how do I grow netherwart without fire?  This stuff has been planted for a week+ and without fire it's still in stage one.  What do I need to do to place fire?  Is it just impossible now?

My Guess: Do it next to a prelit fire in the nether.
Also Lava is greif protected, so now i cant farm obsidian NOR have my lava floors.

Why can't we just turn off spread? Natural fire is a huge pain.
