Title: Multi Theft Auto server?
Post by: AlphaWeeaboo on April 18, 2011, 01:32:11 PM
If enough people are interested I'll be able to throw up one from my own computer and manage it. If we go get one up I'll have a custom map along with several mods. And no, I'm not going to be doing SA-MP. Use MTA it's much better anyways. Note that you must have a downgraded version 1 San Andreas in order to play MTA correctly. I mainly want to see who has GTA/MTA and who would play on the server if I put one up. Connection may or may not be the best but hey, it's better than the other 90% of servers that are run by Russians or Mexicans.

(Also if you plan on getting it, DO NOT get the Steam version if you want to play MTA, it does not work with the Steam version. So just buy the game from your local pawn shop or find it by other methods.)

Although this sounds like a great idea, it isn't. The amount of coding that goes into this is ridiculous. I've tried to run SAMP and MTA servers, and the scripts are massive, and you still have to do A LOT of coding even after mods are installed. If it were a community-only type thing, it would be okay, but to make it public would require a lot of work. I remember I was going to buy a script off of another community once, and they charge like $1 for every 100 lines of code... It came out to be somewhere around $600, that's 60,000 lines of code.

I'm not trying to crush your dreams Emo, just telling you what it will take :)

Well I'm sure it will take loads of coding to get anything decent on there but I managed to run one before just fine. It was rather basic but it had a working ATM system and custom map.

Well yeah, you can get it working, but anything that is made to compete will take obscene amounts of code, like more than us 3 coders are capable of.

I really like the idea, but it's difficult, I love MTA :D

It's more or less for chilling. I mean, I'll still add what I can and work with everything to an extent but other than that yeah. Just a place we can all gather and play some Free Roam or other gamemodes (ones that I can get working >_<)

Anyone else interested? :C
Regardless I'm probably throwing one up just for the heck of it. I just have to get down that damn port forwarding thing down...
