Title: Suggestions for a laptop
Post by: Old Crow on October 31, 2013, 11:13:27 PM
I'm starting to shop around for a laptop finally, done trying to fix the old one and she is 6 years old at this point.

Price range-$500 max, $400 preferred
Preferences: Smaller screen, good for typing, decent performance, touch screen would be a big plus.
What I've looked at so far: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231326

I love Lenovo laptops, got a refurbished one with no video card but and i5 and 4 gigs RAM that does everything else incredibly nicely for under $500

If you have to buy new I say good luck with that price range :|  But refurbished you will find some good stuff

Also WOW that one you posted has a slow processor...

Processor was a dual core, so should be pretty decent. Its not for gaming or anything, more for school and internet. Also you would be surprised, that price range actually has quite a lot of laptops in it.

OK, all I'm saying is for $475 I got a Lenovo laptop with an i5 :P

Quick as hell, and yeah I use it only for internet/work stuff, the high end processor and RAM I mainly utilize when I'm multitasking, with like 5 PDF's open and a bunch of tabs in firefox, running a ton of stuff with absolutely no slowdown.

Go for a laptop that has an SSD too.

Since you're only using it as word processor having an HDD is just redundant storage.
Plus the SSD gives a massive speed boost.

ehhhh probably out of price range, considering they alone cost $150 plus

You can look into this one, otherwise a touchscreen will probably be just out of your price range.
