The Netherlands has a new king.

At last, a king.
There was a streak of queens since 1890, but that streak has ended.

The former queen becomes Princess Beatrix and her son becomes the first Dutch king since Willem III died in 1890.

Yup. The only thing he has to do is sign when a law has been accepted by the House of Representatives and the Senate. He has the last word, kind of.

Well, I understand Chris, he doesn't give fucks because he's not actually Dutch.

We're celebrating and partying every year on the birthday of the queen, but this is is even more special because 1. We're getting a new monarch 2. It's a king, while we had a streak of queens since 1890.

Actually I am part Dutch as that's where my last name comes from (my grandfather is only part dutch mostly swedish)

but my point is figureheads are something i disagree with because they get money for doing jack shit

Well being part Dutch is nothing compared to being born here and living here.

But I'll have to agree with your statement there, they do get alot of money for doing nothing.

I'm not saying she has absolute power. But, she has far more power than a figurehead, although she doesn't excercise it.
