How to forward ports?
« on: June 06, 2011, 10:16:34 PM »
I've tried several programs and going into my router IP thingy and adding ports from there but it ALWAYS seems to fail me. I know I must be doing something wrong somewhere in the steps but damn, every time I do I end up losing connection to the router and having to unplug and plug in the router.
Also my router is a http://www0.epinions.com/reviews/Belkin_F5D7234_4_54MB_802_11G_WRLSWIRELESS_CABLE_DSL_ROUTER_4PORT
Whatever that is. Another question: Would getting a better router improve my internet speed or is it mostly ISP wise? Kinda stupid to ask I guess but oh well lol.

Any help on this? In case you're wondering I'm trying to do several things
1. Forward ports for easier PSN/PS3 connection
2. Host server for game/vent
3. Forward port for BitTorrent

Tried that already twice before. I didn't really get anything out of it but I'll give it another shot. Last one I used was Simple Port Forwarding or something like that.

Also I'm guessing I may need a static IP?

You can do it with a dynamic IP, you're just going to have to punch holes in your entire firewall.

log into your router (usually 192.168.1.1 or something like that)

Look for port forwarding settings.  Forward ports accordingly.

Pretty sure Jal can just get whatever position he wants lol.

Tried that lol. Could have been the firewalls though as I heard that's a big problem. I'll give a static IP a shot dough.
