Title: New GMOD gamemodes&server suggestions
Post by: Phoenix on April 23, 2013, 09:20:48 AM
i have got a few suggestions we can use for Servers&gamemodes

feel free to post other suggestions

STALKER(like hidden but easier to mod and doesnt need Seperate install): http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=437791
Reason why it should be added: many people dont know that Hidden source exists, they play Stalker, so why wont we just make a Stalker server, but it is 100% based on the Hidden

MORBUS(Zombie survival/TTT like but in a better way): http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1092742
Reason why it should be added: morbus is becoming a better known gamemode, and its not if you are dead you are dead, if you are dead you respawn as ALIEN with alien skin and you can only kill with mellee, but the humans still have got Rifles to kill you, so its a gamemode that when you die you dont have to wait the rest of the round.

Morbus, made by Remscar as an update for "The Thing", it's pretty cool, but... meh, didn't enjoy it - and I know some people, no matter how silly it is, won't like this just BECAUSE it's made by Remscar.

And stalker, we already have a hidden server, there's not really any point, we used to have a fretta server with it but when Stalker was on, wasn't that great.

maybe a tryout for morbus before you make a choise?

If Stalker is 100% like Hidden, then it's best if we stick just to Hidden, no point in making a server that's exactly like Hidden.

I think we do need more Gmod servers. TTT being the only one gets boring after a while. Although, I don't think either of these would be good choices for one.

We already have ZPS and ZM, how many more zombie games do we need?

(the answer is none cause people don't really care that much about zombies anymore)

But seriously that gamemode sounds so much like zps.

I think you're talking about Morbus, and when remscar invited me to try it, it's not a zombie thing, he just explained it terribly :p

It's more like The Thing, you have guns, do different objectives, and etc.

One player is The thing (And for some reason, the model is that of the Alien from Aliens), and can disguise as a human, the goal of the thing is to kill/transform all the players, basically like Hidden's overrun mode, and trust me, not as good IMO.

I find Morbus fun but I don't think it would work for CG

We have tried to have another Garrys Mod server, but it went about as good as a CG minecraft server. I don't think another Garrys Mod server will help us at all.

I just think it need to be something popular. TTT is probably the biggest Gmod gametype out there right now. Only something like a deathrun, jailbreak, or a RP server is big enough to get anywhere close to the numbers we do on TTT.

I thought the jailbreak server was going to be good. Sure, we never got it to work right and it sucked major ass, but if we got it to work, i think it'd be good.  smug

We had it on CSS, it was so hard to admin when there were lots of people on, but oh-so-dead most of the time.

Jailbreak is fun with friends, not with random people like TTT is.

If it was originally for CSS it's going to suck dick on GMOD, just keep that in mind.

Link: That's a great idea. Not only is it easy to setup, admins should have a fairly easy time. It's a great gamemode and maybe we can get rid of some of the bunny rabbits hopping around in TTT  :D .

Leet: Stalker isn't worth the effort. If people are desperate they will buy The Hidden and the server will be deserted. Also Stalker is a bad game when using GMOD textures because the hidden doesn't show up very well against the backdrops.

Pyro: I must agree Pyro. Despite being a fun alternative if you don't want to buy HL2 and play the hidden it seems like too much effort to add to CG servers.

Btw, Hidden is free, no point in stalker. Plus, stalker isn't even as good as hidden... So yeah.

And Billy, I totally agree with you, but I think we need a Surf/Deathrun server like the one a few of us used to occasionally go on few months ago. It was so much fun with the mix of competitive surf, skill surf, and Deathrun maps. Plus it had the great radio plugin that you could loop Heyaheyaheyaheyhey for hours. The name alludes me, but maybe someone recalls what I'm talking about.

Plus, I'd have an excuse to learn to Bhop.

I love surf even more than deathrun.. But I prefer CS:S when it comes to surfing. But I wouldn't mind a hybrid server.

Honestly I can't enjoy Deathrun server. I've played Deathrun for maybe between 100-200 hours on one server because they managed it AMAZINGLY. They slightly lowered gravity and deceleration just enough so you aren't flying but have amazing mid-air control to fake out a death and make precise jumps. They now have a huge server which is populated 24/7.

I'm not saying i'm completely against a deathrun server, im just saying that there are a few servers that do deathrun much better than we probably can. I can't see our server doing all that well.

I refrained from stating the name of the server to avoid "advertising"

We can do that too.

I still have all the jailbreak code, I've thought about fixing it up as a little side project, but haven't yet. There were a shitload of bugs, but they were being fixed, there was quite a bit of progress from what I started with and what I ended with, although we did end up switching to an equally broken gamemode half way through, it just looked shinier.

The gamemode was being improved, however there was an issue with the control panel and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. The server provider was useless. The error stopped anyone from connecting to the server and that put the nail in the coffin. Not to mention a month after we opened a support ticket they still wouldn't open a single fucking port that needed to be opened for sourcebans to work, so it was disconnecting from SM, which wasn't that much of an issue, just annoying as I spent more time then I should have trying to figure out why it wasn't working until I think inject figured that out. The server provider was extremely cheap, and WG later admitted to me the reason he bought from them was because he knew the guy and was trying to make amends.

Putting up the server was a bit premature, the gamemode was a WIP. That's why for the first week or so there was a password on it. In the end we opened it up, it was playable, and I enjoyed fucking around with people on there.

I'm sorry for taking this off topic, just felt like commenting.

EDIT:(This post was assuming you were talking about gmod jailbreak. CSS jailbreak was a lot of fun.)

They have exactly the same resources as we do and therefore have no advantage over us. I'm sure we could easily change aspects of a deathrun server upon popular request giving us a equal opportunity to create a fun enviroment. Also the point of this is to determine what gamemode the community would enjoy to play the most, we can talk about ways to improve servers/gamemodes once we actually have them up and running rather than dwelling on ''some servers handling things better''.  :)

Deathrun seems to be one of the biggest contenders at the moment and brings in a lot of skilled players. Supervising the players would be simple and the admins would have a fairly simplistic job when compared to TTT servers e.g. having to deal with in-game conflict (RDM) etc.

Stalker and Morbus however, seem to be further attempts at re-creating a hidden like experience in GMOD. The similarities between the gamemodes mean that they are nothing 'fresh' or new providing a rather mild and short interest in the potential servers.

VOTE YES FOR Deathrun and surf!

Yeah, I was talking about Gmod Jailbreak.

And my point of view is that TTT being the only Gmod server gets really stale. I think that having somekind of other gmod server (be it jailbreak or  deathrun/surf) would only do good. It keeps Gmod in of itself fresh and exciting to play. And although I could easily go on another communities server to do that, I'd like to go on a CG one.

There are more games in this world than Gmod

I get that. But, MANY of our "rival" communities have a LOT more servers than we do. Not to name any names, but I know of servers with 5-6 servers dedicated to just Gmod with MANY different gamemodes. Our servers in of themselves aren't even very varied. We just have TTT, Hidden, Saxton, NS2, ZPS, and ZM. More variation would keep me (and I imagine most people) stuck playing on CG a LOT more often.
