Its not a bad thing, and generally is one of the larger styles of photoshop users, I used to do the same a lot myself.

But then I started getting rid of a lot of the elements of the pictures ie vertex's and what not and started relying more on making my own brushes and just manipulating the subject.
IE:
The only things that I didn't make for that picture were the text and the initial image of sora, besides that, all of it is simple manipulations of basic brushes and color gradients. I find that when doing things in photoshop, like cooking, the less you add and the more you manipulate the basic items, the better your final product will be. If you incorporate too many elements into something it'll draw away from the focus of the final product.
