TF2 lower slots
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:28:44 AM »
Our TF2 server is doing fantastic. Staying populated and healthy with little needed effort. However, there is one thing that should be changed and that is the slots. When there is many players the server tends to be laggy on the servers end. Plus TF2 isn't really meant to go past 24 players.

That's why I'm proposing we lower the slot count to 24 and maybe add another server if possible.
Yes, I know that would likely mean the server being full all the time but I regularly play on a 24 slot server hosted by a pretty strong and healthy community and they get by with that.
Putting up a second server could help give a place for everyone to play and keep the slot count at perfect quality. 32 or w/e we have it on is just WAY TOO MUCH.

Also can we get replay enabled and SourceMod commands working on the server?

I agree, but I have heard that Replays will lag the server from someone on a different server before.

Yeah, 32 is absolute mayhem... 24 would be more fun.

And I too like the idea of replays, especially fun moments that might make it onto CG's youtube account? (I haven't worked with TF2's replays much.)

Pff the replay system is just actually for dummies.

Clearly it was already implemented, only with the console "record <name>" Command.
You can edit the video (camera movement etc.) in the demo editor of Source.

The things produced out of the replay edit aren't bad at all. Potential machinimas made easy.

All right I'll look into the lowering of slots and stuff a bit later but first off YES sourcemod is fully functional on the SERVER end but I haven't set it up on web end yet.

If theirs anything else you'd like me to do (addons, plugins, modifications, etc) Tell me thing in this thread or another.

I think we should keep the respawn time.  thats traditional, and that means ppl need to think more before they play.  this is team fortress dammit not call of duty

Most the respawn time should ever be is 15 maybe even 20 on rare occasions.

everything is pretty much set up we shouldn't change it so soon

if you change slots please talk to me first I REALLLY have an opposition to that
mainly for the meantime

in a few weeks we can do a few more changes but for now we need to grab as many players as we can while their are still many players in tf2 (before it evens back out)

we should leave the server relatively untouched for now if we drop it to 24 slots we will add replay

for now replay everyone (on my basic research on the web) has told me that it is in general just laggy and lowers fps
