General Gaming Talk / Re: Starbound

I have it

I WANT TO PLAY IT

But I refuse to play solo. I also can't set up my own server because there are no options to port forward with Optimum, and I refuse to use Hamachi.

If you are talking about your ISP, they wouldn't forward your ports, it'd be on your router in the web api.
Just talked to Lenin (as well as another friend). Neither could find out how to port forward with it.

What is the make and model of your router?
Issue we were running in to is that when you try to access the ip to configure the router settings, since it's a proprietary router, it just redirects you to their website. Maybe you'll know more about it than me.

As for gameplay, Starbound (so far) has a pretty similar progression system in terms of, you start out with X, then get the next basic tier so you can get the next tier and so on. It's a little different in that tiers are kind of explicitly broken up by planet difficulties/sectors, though. I will say that because the resolution is higher than Terraria, buildings can be more detailed, and the greater variety of materials and craftables means more customization (that actually makes sense).

I feel like Starbound is a little more realistic (for being a sci-fi, open world, survival crafting game) than Terraria. You've got to eat, you've got to stay warm, and crafting isn't instantaneous (not necessarily a good thing, though). I do feel like the UI needs a little more work and NPC recruitment could be a little easier, though.

Some day, when my internet is capable of maintaining a decent connection, I'll have to see how these changes work.

Hit detection seems nice, since I guess it combats the issues with seeing blood and doing nothing, but I'm still not sure I agree with the shotgun nerf. I mean, I personally don't use it, but unless the damage falloff at range got reduced a bit to compensate, I don't know if it was really a good change. If it takes 2 shots to kill the Hidden, even at close range, then the FN2000 might actually be a faster gun to kill the hidden with, no matter what, plus with better range and accuracy.

Ban Appeal / Re: Unbanning Crypto

If there's even any doubt about whether or not you should do it, seems like a pretty clear indication to not do it. Nothing to gain other than headache if you do, anyway, so just leave him imo.

I know a few of us have it, so I was curious what everyone's opinion on it is. Plays a lot like Terraria, but I feel like the exploration aspect is far more polished and expansive. That said, I really wish I could figure out a way to easily go straight down instead of just plummeting to my death >_>.

Ban Appeal / Re: Passe's (Past.) Perma Ban Appeal
« on: December 12, 2013, 12:58:39 PM »
I think what he meant was that if he was really concerned about setting things straight, then why didn't he make the ban appeal before going on the servers and evading the ban, which is still punishable.

What I don't get is if you're willing to overturn a perma like this, why perma them in the first place? Just month ban them or something.

In my defense, was more expecting this, which is pretty common to a lot of North America.

Guess you learn something new every day. Same family, different genus, I guess.

Admin Resignation / Re: No Need...

Yeah, some of the biggest issues when I was admin was map rotations for the custom maps and resetting servers. Really only needed one other person other than the HA to be able to do those, so I understand where you're coming from.

Holy tits.

We might have had some of those in here but FORUM RULES
I got your holy tits.
You see, it's funny because that is actually a chickadee, not a titmouse or even a blue footed booby.

So, GG. Excellent picture.

Weird pop-ups are basically almost always going to be mal-ware, unless you've got some sketchy program that you use normally (hi2U AVG) that just likes to spam you with BS.

But if the pop up is there, you can usually use the task manager to figure out what it is, and use that to trace it to where it's installed, if you're not willing to DL more software.

But I'd definitely recommend also going through your program list and looking for stuff that you don't use/think should be there and uninstalling it, and being more careful about what you DL in the future.

Ban Appeal / Re: IDK

Just for future reference (maybe add something about this to the sticky), TTT bans don't show up in the sourcebans page in the bans part of the forums. Those are mostly all the other source games we have going, namely Hidden.

Ban Appeal / Re: hello
« on: November 30, 2013, 05:05:58 PM »
I honestly find it very hard to believe that something like this is going to falsely ban someone unless they were explicitly messing with those values somehow.

In which case, chances are they were either intending on cheating, or were about to "unintentionally" cheat, which is still cheating. If anything, the plugin makes admins jobs a lot easier by catching the morons who use the really out of date hacks.
