No they aren't. The usual reasoning behind a conspiracy are two fold
1.) The size of a conspiracy needed to hide a cure of any disease let alone a major disease such as HIV or cancer would require every developed country in the world working together to suppress it. If for example you believe that in America corporations have enough power to silence people working on a cure they could move to another country particularly any that have universal health care where they would patent the drug and then sell it to the government who would then save a massive amount of money.
2.) A monetary incentive on behalf of corporations to only push palliatives that they can sell for a long period of time instead of once. three problems
A.) any cure for a serious disease would likely be a fairly lengthy process even things like strep throat or pneumonia take a while to cure. HIV and cancer will probably take much more including life long check ups to ensure no more flair ups.
B.) any corporation that doesn't already make drugs for the disease will have issues breaking into the market. Their best chance would be to improve the treatments available or work towards a cure and any government run research would be looking to save money.
C.) you could charge much more for a cure than a palliative and people also like to be remembered curing HIV or cancer would be a very good way to make sure you are remembered.

Aside from that the biggest problem is the idea of a cure for cancer, there will never be a single cure for cancer for example not even chemo therapy is effective against all cancers though it will have some effect. Different cancers have different causes and will need different treatments. The issue with treating cancer is that it is still part of your body, a cell in your body has malfunctioned and is replicating out of control but it is still part of you. How do you treat that? So far we use usually use radiation therapy and chemo therapy that, to my very basic understanding, treat cancer by killing cells. Chemo drugs hit cells that replicate quickly the hardest which is why you usually lose your hair and finger nails. Radiation treatment I know even less about but from what i understand it is very precise blasts of radiation that damage the cells.

As for HIV, it's still a fairly new disease only being recognized in the early 1980's but there are even now promising studies looking into a cure. If there is some huge conspiracy we have made surprising advances towards curing it.

Yet they wii u lost in both markets where they have competition. Xbox still doesn't have a launch date in japan and ps4 won't be released for 2 1/2 months. Nintendo isn't dead, they are likely the only system selling the console for a profit and sales are not horrible, but you can not argue that it is doing better than a console that out sells it in a) the biggest market by about 70%  and b) the only two markets the it competes in.

I really don't care about this argument but sensationalist title of the article which immediately states that the numbers come from a sketchy source that "should be taken with grain of salt" does bother me.

I also realize you are just poking at old crow but bad sources are bad.

Also I don't think anyone didn't expect Nintendo 3ds to dominate at a much cheaper price with a good library and a new Zelda game being released for it. Zelda is like crack to way to many gamers

Also i like unnecessarily separating things into paragraphs.

Yeah.

A heads up to anyone thinking of buying fraps.
You'll need either a Paypal account or a Credit Card. Gift cards do not work.

If you register your gift card at the website on the back of your card and wait 24 hours it should work at least with paypal and probably with fraps.

General Gaming Talk / Re: Favorite Pokemon?
« on: October 10, 2013, 02:12:39 AM »

Arcanine: Since I usually had Squirtle in my squad, I needed a fire Pokemon to round things out. Problem was that there really aren't any good fire Pokemon around in Red/Blue, so he was the best choice. I love all three evolutions of Arcanine, but he is the best out of the three.

Arcanine has always been my favorite it is the only constant on every one of my Pokemon teams but it only has 2 forms, Growlithe and Arcanine, unless it has a new form in x and y.

Nintendo will do well once they get their flagship titles out there as always, they will likely out perform Sony and Microsoft in hardware sales just like with the Wii for three reasons:
1. It targets young kids harder than any other system. Pretty much all of their first party titles are kid friendly and yet they still manage some appeal for many adults so parents will pick up a wii u for their kids.
2.  They're Nintendo, they have a massive nostalgia bonus. Just about every gamer has played Mario, Zelda and the smash bros games along with their other first party content(forgive me for not being able to name others I haven't kept up with Nintendo, i have literally only had 6 games for my Wii three of which are my brother's one is mine and it's shit and the others are both of ours)
3. it's the cheapest console out there, even if they are likely the only ones who will make profit on the hardware itself.
In conclusion Nintendo essentially prints money, the 3DS had garbage sales it's first year as well. Nintendo is going to be around for a long time.

Having said that I have  seen nothing that makes me want to play the Wii U and i won't be getting one that's for sure, as i said i only had 6 games, only would have bought 3-4 on my own and two that i regret, skyward sword did nothing for me and i was stupid enough to buy the golden eye remake.

This is hugely over hyped much like aspartame with the exception that msg is found in a lot of food naturally in quite high amounts.

Debate Forum / Re: Born Gay
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:21:37 PM »
If your parents were both straight, and made you, where does this gay gene come from?

If you're gay, shouldn't you be unable to pass such genes along...?
recessive genes (like left-handedness, certain hair/eye colours) or a more than on gene which could lead to an increased likelihood of being gay, could be many genes that need one mutation that would lead to being gay.

much like you can have multiple colours in your hair, I for one have brown hair with red and blond highlights that only really show in the right light,  and height can't be defined as just tall/short nothing suggests that sexuality has to be one of two things.

I think it's a mix of genes and  and environmental factors after all there are gay people in the middle east and Africa where is it common for it to be illegal to be gay, why would someone chose to be gay if the could be arrested or killed? On the other hand from what i have read(admittedly not very much, most from high school history class textbooks and a little from things on the television so i could be very wrong) ancient Greeks saw bisexuality as being fairly normal and didn't have a problem with gay people so they had a high population of gay/bisexual people. From that it seems to me it has to be a bit of both, some people have no choice others may have a choice.

Sorry if this is bit confusing and scatter shot I've always been terrible at typing up my own thoughts though i can them write on paper more easily.

Al Gore didn't make up global warming(unless he has a time machine).

Also i don't know how much of this is still believed, after all it's more than 50 years old.

and hypotheses will remain theory until proven otherwise. Albeit substantial evidence, unless we can somehow serendipitously discover a way to recreate the big bang, it makes about as much sense as the Lockness monster masturbating.

>.> i may have misunderstood but it sounds to me like you just said a theory and hypothesis are the same thing. science doesn't go hypothesis/theory>law or even hypothesis>theory>law.

To my understanding the big bang is just a hypothesis at this point but one with quite a bit of evidence. I'm sure all those scientists who have  an education in theoretical physics and papers published about the big bang are wrong but you here on the internet know exactly what you are talking about. Also just to preempt what always happen when i say this, sorry if you see this as an ad hominem, I don't think you're stupid but I'm kind of tired of the internet "expert".

« on: February 10, 2011, 12:30:45 AM »
just out of curiosity does that mean it's offensive to call American people of Asian descent Asian? as far as i can see it's the same. Racism isn't fixed by changing terms or removing labels, the public needs to be educated.

Some one has probably already said this but just to make sure big bang=/= abiogenesis, abiogenesis =/= evolution, abiogenesis=/= spontaneous generation. Also the big bang does have evidence, look up Cosmic microwave backround radiation which was predicted by the big bang model before it was discovered(the sign of a good hypothesis).
