Way Off Topic Box / The Auto-Necroing Thread Game: Mk. III
« on: June 26, 2013, 07:42:39 AM »
The person that has a post in this thread that occurred the greatest amount of time after the post immediately preceding it is the current winner.

DISCLAIMER: This game doesn't actually encourage necro. In fact, it discourages necro, as it encourages the current winner to post consistently and frequently so that others cannot post with a larger gap. Of course the winner who post after the thread's been dead for 13 days wins by default, because that's the max gap before rules are broken, but hell it won't get that close.

Good luck!

Solved Ban Appeals / Possible RDM+Leave Ban
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:09:12 AM »
Who were you banned by: UnknownError and Tendovvi
Why were you banned: RDM and Leave.

What server where you banned from: TTT

What date and/or time around were you banned: May 3rd, roughly a couple hours before this post.

Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:25689951

Your in game name: Amanita phalloides

Link to your steam page: http://steamcommunity.com/id/AmanitaPhalloides/

Additional comments:

The reason that I suspect that this is RDM and Leave is because, prior to leaving, I remember having killed two innocents. (My reasoning is a bit blurry, for I played quite a few rounds, and I don't want to mix them up and confuse folks.) However, I can attest that both kills were deserved/accidental, and not in malice.

Upon dying, during this round, I decided I was ready to leave. I did wait a minute in deadchat to see if anyone was yelling at me for killing them, and considering I didn't see anything, I figured nobody was mad. Maybe waiting it out would've been better, but I'm lazy. One of these two persons probably told an admin I RDMed them and left, which is not the case, for my killing them was not random.

(I'm going to try to guess about one of the killings, but this may have been a different round, and entirely irrelevant: I recall witnessing an innocent shoot the traitor-tester on 67th_way, and upon staring at him in the vent and asking over voice-chat whether that's traitorous... I killed him with a Mac-10! This is a thing that happened, but may not pertain to my ban, like I said, it's blurry. Not sure about the other death~)

TL;DR: Another ban appeal where the bannee doesn't know the details. Sorry~

Admin Department / An Addition to the Admin Post Count Requirement
« on: July 14, 2012, 02:02:06 AM »
This is just a humble suggestion that I thought I should put out here for discussion. This admin application has sparked a significant amount of discussion regarding the 20-post rule which has been creating spammy posts from certain players that wish to apply.

Seeing as a post count can be raised in a very short amount of time, little effort is required. I move that we raise the requirement to at least 20 posts and require the applicant to have been registered on the forum for at least 30 days.

This ensures that the player has been involved in the community enough to be on the forums for a decent amount of time so they can't just come up out of nowhere and hope for admin when nobody knows them. The post count is to ensure they don't just lurk the whole time, and 30 days is certainly enough time to come up with 20 non-spammy posts. Even then, it isn't about that. It's about sticking around with the community enough to know whether you really want to be admin, and to make yourself known as a reasonable player who is worthy of the responsibility.

I'll leave you with a short story about my time in CG:

I've been around for a long time, over 2 years. At that time I was under the admin age requirement. It wasn't as simple as just popping in and applying, I really had to stick around for a while for it to even be worth considering. I do remember thinking that I'd like to become a part of the community, possibly an admin, which is funny because at this point I have significantly less interest. (Apart from beloved Jailbreak.) I feel like this helped me become a part of the community and at least a month of this would be good for potential applicants. (Technically I'm not even an admin anymore, the server I was triallmining on for a short amount of time, Jailbreak, shut down due to the terrible server providers completely unwilling to respond to tickets and whatnot. (I might be talking out of my butt here, I'm just spewing whatever it was I heard from Black. I dunno. :())

The point: I don't care if there /are/ active players who have the community's support for adminship, if these applicants haven't bothered to spend time on the forum, the hub of the community, getting to know players from /all/ of our servers, whether or not they're really dedicated enough to stick around and admin responsibly is beyond me. This would deter players who immediately show up and want admin, because they'd realize they'd have to wait at least a month.

Thoughts? This discussion needs opinions both to and against with proper reasoning, but let's try to keep it civil. Thanks!

General Gaming Talk / Artemis: A Space Bridge Simulator
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:13:43 AM »
So I just heard about this game from some folks outside of the community, and got to play it. It's called Artemis, it's a bridge simulator on a spaceship. I'll quote somebody because lazy, and then talk a bit more about it below.

Screenshots!

Quote
First off: Artemis

Artemis is an absurdly awesome Spaceship Bridge simulator, but it handles this in an innovative way.

Instead of having every console controllable by a single person (Although this is a possibility...) it instead has a main server handling the simulations and the main overview, while the player's individual computers act as dumb workstations, which control a single (or more) consoles on that "bridge".  This results in some insanely awesome stuff with 6 people doing their best to work together to fight with and fly a combat spaceship, as well as providing some cool RP opportunities.

Positions: (LINKS ARE TO WIKI PAGES ON THAT POSITION)
CAPTAIN - (Manages rest of asylum crew)
HELM - (Manages ship heading and speed, as well as warp drive shields and overall status reports)
WEAPONS - (Manages energy and kinetic weapons, both loading and firing for optimal effect + shields)
COMMS - (Manages NPC interactions, both ordering friendlies around and ordering enemies to surrender, as well as handling side missions and crew requests for when they dock (Weapons guy wants 6 more nukes))
ENGINEERING - (Manages damage control and power distribution)
SCIENCE - (Manages long range sensors, searches for anomalies and can determine weaknesses of enemies, for weapons guy)

It's DRM-free (it's not licensed, you can download/distribute copies without logging in or using keys or anything like that). It costs $40, and ideally you distribute copies to your 6 crew so that they can install it on their computer(s) and play it with you. It's great for LAN parties so you can hotswap seats with people, but it supports games over the network too. It allows for 36 players total.

It's a server/client setup, sort of like sburb (for you homestucks), so the host just sets it up and you connect to their IP. Very simple. There's room for 6 ships, so 6 people per ship, but if we can have people doing two jobs at once as certain jobs like comms don't always require full attention. (More fun if it's a full crew, though.)

I was thinking this'd be a very fun thing to play with the community. Maybe for a Community Game Night. :) We could all get in Vent and battle ships, or just goof around. Heck, we could do something like Admins vs Normal Players in our own just for kicks, or organize teams on our own accord. The possibilities are endless.

So yeah, I thought I'd bring this up to see if anyone else has heard of it or is interested. While I do have a copy of the client, I am not going to distribute it as the person who gave it to me doesn't want me passing it out to anyone else. :(

If a whole bunch of people are interested, we could even start a small fund towards $40 to officially purchase a copy of the game, and then distribute it amongst community. Think of it this way: If 20 players are interested, everyone'd have to push forward a measly sum of $2 each! Assuming enough people are interested, I could either set up a donate link to my paypal and organize the purchase, or we could work it out with a CL to get $40 donated for the game to the server funds and then take it out of there. (We'd have people post here that their donation was towards this game, to keep track.) Really, there are other ways to do it too.

TL;DR:
This is a pretty cool game that might be fun to play as a community.  I'm just leaving this thread in case anyone's interested, I'm not really sure if this is the sort of thing you'd all be into or not. Game On!

Help Section / [Urgent] Does anyone have Flash CS5?
« on: June 10, 2012, 11:24:05 PM »
I've been working in CS6, but need to get my .fla to CS4 to turn it in, it's my final project in a class.

Adobe sucks, so they only allow you to save backwards one version, so I can save to CS5, and then someone with Flash CS5 could open the file and save to CS4, then send it back to me.

This is due next week, Monday or Tuesday, but the sooner the better. Thanks.

Solved Applications / Whitellama: Jailbreak *APPROVED*
« on: May 22, 2012, 01:39:27 AM »
I realize the server isn't up yet, that's intentional. I kinda got lazy and stopped helping on the gamemode, too, so it's been mostly Black as of late. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Blackllama's twin brother, and I haven't been supremely active lately, not really playing TTT anymore, so that's probably why. I've been playing Minecraft and Space Station 13.

Were you recommended by an admin? If so state the name: Blackllama. (Totally no bias there.)

In game name: (=CG=) Whitellama

Link to your steam page: http://steamcommunity.com/id/whitellama/

Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:25689951

Do you have past admin experience:

I was an admin on CG's CS:S Jailbreak way-back-when, for a short period of time.

Why you wish to be admin:

I'm a large fan of Jailbreak, and as discussed during the poll, Jailbreak requires heavy amounts of administration in order to keep the server running smoothly and free of RDM or freekilling. I plan to become more involved in the community once the server's up, too.

What are some good qualities you possess:

I'm rational, I try not to offend people, I stick around, and I'm a llama.

What country are you from: United States of America

Age: 15

Microphone: Of course.

Additional notes:

Mostly posting this before the server's up so that I can be around during the launch for the first few days, assuming I'm not at school. Also: Stop asking Black when the server will be up. I get it if this is declined due to a lot of the new players not knowing me as well as Black, but I have a feeling some of the older players remember me enough.

Help Section / Windows 7 Service Pack 1
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:30:13 PM »
I know this was released ages ago... But I thought I'd ask about it.

I made the mistake to get it quite a while back. It's slowed my computer, a ton, on startup. I get about a minute of extra startup time just staring at a black screen with my cursor, and this all happened only after getting W7 SP1.

I've searched around, and there are a lot of other people who report the same problem, and others who report no problem at all.

Has anyone here gotten the pack, had this problem, or figured out the problem at all?

Solved Admin Abuse / Blackllama Abuse
« on: November 12, 2011, 05:33:46 AM »
Disclaimer: I'm not actually sure where this thread belonged, because he wasn't abusing his powers exactly, but instead he refused to punish himself over his actions. I figured this is the most suiting section, considering he's an admin. Also, this is extremely long-winded. Sorry, but that's just how I write.

Name of player reporting abuse: (=CG=) Whitellama

Admin who is suspected of the abuse: (=CG=) Blackllama (That's right, I'm here to bitch about my brother.)

In which server did the abuse occur?: TTT

What occurred, what did the abuse consist of:

So we're playing TTT on Alt_Boarders with 5 people on and Blackllama picks up a barrel preround, walks into the traitor testing room with me and another player inside, and shoves it into one of the testing tubes. I tell him he's going to RDM someone, but he shoves it into the tester anyways, the door closes on it, and it gets jammed until the start of the round, because barrels cannot explode preround. I was stuck in the small room because Blackllama and the other player were both trying to get out of the door, and the barrel killed me and Blackllama instantly while the other player got away damaged.

I feel most offended by this because Blackllama is my brother, (so I'm more likely to get pissy over his mistakes rather than other's), and he's an admin. Not because I died for a round, but because admins shouldn't behave like this. I have high expectations of admins, like everyone does, but even higher because he's also my brother, and I'm entitled to bitch about it when he messes up.

I started yelling at him IRL and he tried to justify it by saying he warned me it was going to explode, and started a vote on whether or not to slay himself. The vote said 50% yes, even though admins don't use votes based on whether or not to slay themselves.  He said "he just wanted to know the result", yet administrators shouldn't use voting to gauge the level of their error, they should just suck it up and kill themselves. The fact that he did that as a joke, still not taking it seriously, helped piss me off. I believe part of the reason he wouldn't just go and slay himself is because we're brothers, so he felt he was entitled to object because of that, for some reason.  So the map changed to 67th_way  and my game crashed. My mom came up and started talking to him about random crap, and he died while speaking to her. The next round, I told him he better slay himself or I would put up this thread, and he said he would, and started typing into the chat "Guys, whitellama is ye--" before getting stabbed.

He was about to bitch about me yelling at him to slay himself, which he likes to do a lot. If something I do annoys him (and I'm not even on the server), I commonly see him tell people on the server about "Whitellama" doing this or "Whitellama" doing that, or how I'm screaming at him so he can't hear anyone on the server. That alone I've asked him not to do in the past, because no one on the server really needs to know what I am and am not doing, Blackllama just does it to piss me off. I've even asked him IRL why he does it, and he says to piss me off.

So I tell him I still want him to slay himself the following round. He tries to pass off getting stabbed as counting as the slay, but the fact that he was about to complain about me on the server to the other players, was holding still, and got himself stabbed, is not the same as him accepting and punishing himself for RDMing me. He said that he needed to let the server know why he was about to just suddenly die, yet there was still no reason for him to tie in a personal attack against myself, and a slay puts a message in the chat so it would have been clear that he slayed himself regardless. I never got an apology, and he proceeded to make excuses about how he had missed the last two rounds so that counted for the slay, and how it was an accident, even though no one can shove a barrel into a closing door with two other people in the room on accident.

His failure to punish himself for what is blatant RDM is what's brought me to this. I don't care that I died for a single round. I care that as he is an administrator, and that he should behave like one. Any other admin on the server doesn't argue with the player they RDMed, and they don't make excuses like "he stabbed me while I was typing" or "I was killed while I was talking to my mom so that counts for the slay".

I really don't care if he's punished for this. I do not care if this thread is just brushed off because I'm pissed/sibling rivalry/whatever. I just want this thread to be here, to remind him, that he fucked up. At least once.  And that he should just learn to swallow whatever pride he has and slay himself, even if it's for RDMing his brother. Is that so much to ask?

What time and day did it happen (put down your time zone too): around 11:00 PM UTC -08:00 (Pacific Time)

Additional comments:

Sorry that this is so long-winded. I like detail. I didn't bother to throw in any proof, because I don't expect him to deny that this happened. If he does, I'll just find one of the players from the server to testify. He knows I'm posting this.

Programming / thenewboston Tutorials
« on: October 15, 2011, 07:53:29 PM »
Hey. I've been pretty inactive lately, besides lurking around the forums, but I've recently started doing more programming like stuff, for example right now I'm learning how to program android apps. Either way, I figured I'd mention this pretty awesome guy on youtube, thenewboston, who does tutorials on pretty much everything. (Not really everything, but a lot of stuff.)

I use his tutorials for Java, but he also has tutorials for Building a computer, Adobe After Effects, Python, 3Ds Max 2010, Android Applications, Visual Basic, jQuery, JavaScript, C#, PHP, UDK, C++, C, Java Game Development, iPhone Development, Dreamweaver CS4, Computer Game Development, and even school stuff (like Algebra, Chemistry, Geometry, etc.)

Anyways, he teaches so much useful shit, with high quality videos, that I figured it would be a nice link for this almost-empty Tutorials section. He even recently quit his job to make tutorials full time, and he answers questions about the tutorials too.

http://www.youtube.com/user/thenewboston

So I leave you with this. Have fun learning.

General Gaming Talk / Dwarf Fortress
« on: August 12, 2011, 03:20:08 AM »
So after trying and failing quite a while ago, I've just recently gotten into this game, that I don't think anyone's discussed around here in the past. The game is Dwarf Fortress. The point of Dwarf Fortress is to try and manage to turn your seven useless, lazy dwarves, into a thriving fortress built into the side of the mountain, or a hole in the ground. It is literally the most complex, puzzling game I've ever played. I'm serious. The graphics for this, are a variety of ASCII characters, with a variety of colors and backgrounds. If you're not dedicated to learn just what each tile means, it's better you pick up a much nicer looking tileset, or better, The Lazy Newb Pack. Also, you'll probably smash your monitor in frustration, if you don't read the wiki.

I won't go too deep into detail, because there's a lot of detail to cover. I've given you the links, in hopes that after you guys get a few fortresses in, anyone would be interested in a few Bloodline/Succession Games, which involves passing the save file for a fortress in between players in a zero-collaboration matter. The idea is that one player spends his in-game-year doing one thing, and the next can expand on that, or do something completely different. Boatmurdered, is famously one of the best, most horrifying succession game ever played. It's 65 pages long, but I believe the reading was worth it. It's also a way to learn what to do, and what not to do, when you get into the deep of running a fortress. Well actually, mostly what not to do.

Anyways, has anyone played this before? I think the game is really cool, as it's the only thing I've seen in which a mother can give birth in the midst of battle, have her dominant hand cut off, and throw her newborn baby as a weapon. Another example is when a dwarf is stabbed in the stomach, but he sews himself back together. This particular dwarf, is displayed with a red ~ symbol following his character, because he forgot to put his organs back inside. Another interesting aspect, is the way serious trauma affects your dwarves. For example, in Boatmurdered, the fortress was plagued with attacks of vicious elephants, so they built emergency floodgates, built to burn every living creature, plant, and tree, with magma. The elves were pissed, many dwarves burned, and it never solved the elephant problem, but that's not the point. The point is, dwarves trained to engrave walls, would engrave one of three things: An elephant striking down a dwarf. A dwarf screaming. A dwarf burning (or maybe a cat burning, there was this dwarf obsessed with it's cats). Exploring the abandoned rendition of that fortress in adventure mode, reveals that literally every screaming, burning, and elephant stomping, was tied in to the death of a certain dwarf. Many committed suicide, jumping into the river.

Anyways, that's all I have to say right now. Enjoy.

Minecraft / World of Phore
« on: August 07, 2011, 08:36:24 PM »
Well I just thought I'd leave this here in case anyone's interested. It's where I've been instead of playing our own server. It's gonna be fairly heavy RP when all is finished and it goes officially public, and right now it just consists of a team of people building some of the best shit I've made in minecraft. Screenshots: http://whitellama.imgur.com/all/ (The screenshots don't really do it justice, so here's the thread about it. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/455672-rp-server-creation-team-help-wanted/

But I'm only leaving this here for people that want to do the RP or are interested in large, building projects. Besides that, you should really be playing our server for all other minecrafting purposes. No really. Play the (=CG=) server.

The Art Forum / Post your AMVs
« on: June 04, 2011, 09:35:02 PM »
I'm about 90% sure I haven't shown you guys this, but a while back I gave a shot at making an AMV. I'm thinking about making another, but I need feedback on this one first, so I know what not to do again. (Also, I know I need to get rid of the black bars, as well as the subtitles.)

Also, the way the site I used to host this works, is that you'll need to either watch it using the "PREVIEW" link (I dont' recommend it however), or download it by clicking "LOCAL".
Video: Last Exile - 21 Guns

If anyone else here has done any AMVs before, feel free to post them here too.
