Title: Your "Anime/Manga" Style Drawings
Post by: JohnCyKlopZ on October 28, 2012, 02:28:11 AM
Here are mine, in chronological order. First I go from drawing Derp to Okay. As I'm creating this thread, I've only been drawing for 6 days. If you're a fan of anime/mangas, you should post your drawings here as well.  Meme5
If you think you suck at drawing, just practice. I was terrible at drawing faces as well (as you can see on this post,) and got better in just six days. That doesn't mean I don't need practice, though. I still need a lot of it.

Don't trace, though. Copying's fine, but tracing - no.

Would've used a scanner, but too much effort.  So enjoy mobile phone images.

I'm really bad at hair, only had one I was willing to upload.

Fixed it. The first time around I didn't want visitors to expect SUPER PRO MLG ANIME PHOTOSHOP ART by adding a hint of derp in the title, but now I think using quotation signs will do the same well job of concealing such expectations. Or maybe that's just me.

Nice. Only comment is I feel the eye should be lower/closer to middle. Looks a little bit odd.
I like the mask though.

I need to draw more shit and post it. It'll likely be just as bad as the stuff I posted a while ago (if not worse). But at least it's practice.

I found a scan of those eyes I posted forever ago.

I also drew something today. Her facial features don't look that wonderful, but I didn't spend a ton of time on them either. I spent most of the time on hair, because I'm generally terrible at it. It could've been worse, but I'm not fond of it. I prefer eyes. I did draw an eye next to it, but that was also a bit funky and experimental. The eyes on the face were also terribad, then again I haven't drawn in forever. For less terrible eyes hit the spoiler above.

Criticism is very welcome.

By the way, if anyone was wondering, the numbers shown by the characters' fingers and the huge digit beside them represent the drawing's, well, number in the "series" of practice drawings I'm making. Which means my next practice drawing will have a girl showing four fingers. No real point to that, I just wanted to add a little quirk to this. And yes, the first drawing in this little series was the OP of the thread "Klutonec practices drawing your buttcheeks", which was horrible so I'm not gonna link it.
I'm mainly practicing drawing female faces and bodies in this "series," hence the half assed backgrounds and everything else.

What happens after the tenth? Maybe I'll start over and start drawing males, I don't know. (Drawing males isn't as fun IMO, for obvious reasons, but it's variety.)

Why not draw Poison from SF / FF with bulgey parts included  trollface

ANYWAYS, for colours? Latte Beige  (#FFF8E7) is good for light coloured clothes, and if you want to detail it even more add Salmon Pink ( #FF91A4) and draw some floral branches on it!

Other things that work well are Charcoal Grey (#36454F), and Carmine Red (#960018) or Maroon (#800000) work well on cutesy hoodies, Bleu de France (#318CE7) can be used well on T-shirts or designs (Even eyes), for dresses I'd use Tea Rose (#F4C2C2) for pink dresses, Cordovan Rose ( #893F45) for a Middle-ranged brownish colour, and Taupe Brown ( #674C47) for dark dresses.

The only issue i have is your faces, i can't tell whether its because it lacks feature or because it doesn't seem to hold a lot of emotion... probably a mix of both.

The only issue i have is your faces, i can't tell whether its because it lacks feature or because it doesn't seem to hold a lot of emotion... probably a mix of both.

If you want them to be shy you could try adding some blushing. You could make it all scratchy-like (http://www.google.com/imgres?q=anime+blush&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbo=d&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS516US516&biw=944&bih=927&tbm=isch&tbnid=CrN9npsi6oIHjM:&imgrefurl=http://favim.com/image/262778/&docid=c_IAb1mTRQpuBM&imgurl=http://s2.favim.com/orig/33/anime-awesome-blush-girl-manga-Favim.com-262778.jpg&w=508&h=525&ei=W6EZUaPGHOX4yQHTl4Ao&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:24,s:0,i:218&iact=rc&dur=1199&sig=100791399408242089836&page=2&tbnh=195&tbnw=165&start=13&ndsp=16&tx=38&ty=82) or blurryish (http://www.google.com/imgres?q=anime+blush&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbo=d&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS516US516&biw=944&bih=927&tbm=isch&tbnid=ycDop6BbNoi2tM:&imgrefurl=http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-220275/blushing-in-anime%3Fpg%3D9&docid=t0WNwmiAXcoOzM&imgurl=http://img1.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire1/08132008/1/c/0/0/1c006c166f56d0_full.jpg&w=640&h=360&ei=W6EZUaPGHOX4yQHTl4Ao&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:38,s:0,i:260&iact=rc&dur=104&sig=100791399408242089836&page=3&tbnh=168&tbnw=300&start=29&ndsp=17&tx=81&ty=79).

Next picture will be something better than this, of course. Or a sketch of what's to come.

A little portion of what's to come. This is just a colored sketch. The colors may not be final, either:

The finished digital painting will have a full body and everything (clothed, of course.)

Most of your recent drawings (not including the above) seem like the eyes are too far apart. I like what you did with the eyes on your recent one though, and I feel to draw shy/awkward looking faces you just need to have them looking away and have their head tilted downward; you know? The male drawing you did above though, it feels like his left eye is WAY to close to his ear and if he were to look straight at you there'd be 4 inches of space between each eye. I feel like noses help artists dictate where to put the eyes, but due to anime's "noseless" style that can be hard but just kind of imagine where the bridge would be and have them no more than an "inch" away from the nose area. In some of your pictures it feels like their almost an inch and a half or two inches away from the bridge; while I'm not actually measuring them you get what I mean I hope.

You've basically nailed it on your last one but as far the eyes go if you want them to look more shy and "guilty" you have to have their eyes lower and more solemn looking. The blush works well too, and you have to make sure their eyebrows don't make them look too intrigued as that's the opposite of shy. Your current work looks more like she's wondering what she's looking at, and I believe that's what you're going for but just commenting on the previous discussion.

Here's a pic I found that pretty well depicts a "shy" anime girl

Thanks man, I never noticed the large gaps before, until you mentioned it. But I get what you mean. That's some good advice, and from now on I'll start paying more attention to the space between the nose and each eye. Thanks, Pillz!

For the last drawing, I guess I just got lucky lol

I think I'll finally get around to drawing something tonight. We'll see if I post it.

Probs gonna end up using sai as my adobe cs6 trial expired and I lost my cs4 installation when I formatted my Hdd. I'll prob and see if I can get a copy of cs6 soon, but might as well try out sai while I wait. I haven't used in a very long time, but I'm glad to see there's an easily accessible english version now.

So I drew something and started coloring it and it looked like shit. I drew something else, and pretty much finished sketching it out. I figured I'd post it before doing lineart, because I'm much more likely to finish it this way. It's on a green background because a lot of the lines are too light to easily be seen on white.

The hair is kind of meh, but I think I can make it look better after the lineart.

The lineart:

There are a handful of lines that are too thick that stick out too much, I'll fix those. Next step: coloring. Hopefully this is the fun part.

EDIT: Oops, just realized that the sketch was actually showing beneath that. Close enough though.

And... done. I should've finished the hair and shaded it and stuff, but was too lazy. I want to start a different drawing. It looks alright, but I want to make the hair more realistic next time as well as using thicker lines on the eyes.

IMO eyes need to be raised a bit higher. Ideally the corner of the eye is paralell to the ears; so on this picture you'd need to raise them about a centimeter and then maybe give the nose a little more corner to it, just to get an idea of where the tip is. I think there's more difficulty in drawing something that isn't facing you, and to fully portray their heads as a bit turned their eyes need to be appropriately scaled which can be difficult.

It looks pretty nice really but just feels a little off-set to me, when you look at how much forehead+head space there is it just feels a little off. Keep on drawing

Yeah, I see what you mean. I was planning on having the eye scale down, and it does a little, but it ended up not looking much smaller anyway. I've been having issues with the hairline/bangs/forehead space, they just don't seem right. That's why I was thinking more natural hair on my next one, less spikes. I think it'll be easier to manage. Thanks for the advice.
