Help Request Subject: Trying to join a Garrysmod server crashes my Internet
Specific people needed to read this: once again, anyone who can help
Summarize help request in one sentence: When I start up GMod and go into the server selection screen my Internet begins to crash and I can not always join a server that shows up.
Additional Info: My Internert will start right back up after a few minutes when I quit GMod. Running the troubleshooter for Internet Connections will have it say, The DNS server was not responding, but it cannot fix it so I have to wait.
Importance level(low,medium,high): Medium
Steam related?: Probably not

Could you give a screenshot of what you mean?
-
what wireless router do you have?
-
My internet also does the same with some source games [L4D2 and CSS].. I use Verizon Fios, but I have not found a solution.

There is a screenshot of what the troubleshooter says after I loaded up the Multiplayer GMod Server List and then exited the game.
I think my router is a Linksys
I don't really know a lot about this kind of stuff
-
domain naming service server isn't working = yes it is your router
-
Well then what do?
I think I found a work-around where I hold down the refresh button when I connect to servers on Garrys Mod
-
when i asked what kind of router you have i was asking if it was wireless B, G, or N.
-
On the bottom it says
LINKSYS by Cisco
Wireless-G Broadband Router with Speed Booster

This is a decently old thread but i didn't see any response saying "Solved or Fixed" so i'm going to attempt to help you.
About 3-4 months ago i had this same exact problem. What it is is someone had you download of what i think is a lua file that crashes your computer as you start up the game or around 15-30 minutes into gameplay. What i had to do is reinstall my game. I kept my maps folder and deleted everything.
1. Delete your garrysmod folder in steamapps.
2. Delete local content on steam.
This SHOULD fix the problem. If it doesn't i'd be VERY surprised.
Hope i helped.
