Zombie Master / Re: Punishing non-cooperative behaviours?
« on: May 05, 2014, 10:26:16 PM »
The issue mostly arises in maps split in parts where if you move forward, everyone that is left behind dies (e.g. crocodile, compound). Some people just dashes for the door and closes it, killing everyone that was too slow or couldn't reach the door in time (e.g. blocked by barricades/zombies). This is where it truly affects the other players; otherwise it's mostly being a general douchebag and an annoyance more than anything.

Zombie Master / Punishing non-cooperative behaviours?
« on: May 05, 2014, 02:55:33 AM »
This is a grey area for me and I'm encountering the situation quite often those days: when a player performs acts that are not griefing per se, but are against the cooperative nature of the game, is it something that should be punished, or is it simply a way of playing the game?

Example 1: the room the survivors are in is getting swarmed by zombies. Bob runs out of the room, closes the door and barricades it, without waiting for his teammates.

Example 2: the room is swarming with zombies. Survivors are fending them off while waiting for the elevator to come down. Bob sees the elevator arriving, rushes for it and immediately takes it, leaving the others behind.

Example 3: Bob is making sure to pop every barrel he sees - wouldn't want a zombie getting hurt in an explosion, would we?

I'd say, there are two categories of non-cooperative behaviours: first one is "selfish behaviour" - you try to save your life at the expense of everyone else if so it should come to that. Second one is "We can't have nice things" - you break everything and anything that could be useful, from barrels to crates to barricades.

In my opinion, the second one should be punished; that's borderline griefing.
The first one is more fuzzy - sometimes you make honest mistakes (you did not see that you were followed when you closed the door); sometimes it's blatant (dash for the elevator to take it alone). I'd punish such behaviour only when it's obvious you left people behind intentionally.

What do you think?

Debate Forum / Re: New Forum Rules Debate!
« on: April 13, 2014, 08:24:27 PM »
Both rules are organic; it's difficult to give a hard-number guideline to follow.

About the post count: it's mainly about making sure the person is willing to get involved in the forum. I agree that starting your first topic with an admin application is not a good way to go. If the user made the effort to register, introduce themselves, post a bit about what they like or don't like, it's all fair. I don't think there needs to be a hard-number required postcount for that - more like a general guideline ("Make sure to introduce yourself and take part to a few discussions, so that we can get to know you a little better before we can review your application").

About Necro'ing: it's almost impossible to set out clear and hard rules to say "this is too late to add new posts to this topic". This has to be left to the intelligence of the poster and the mod. The question to ask yourself as a poster is: "Do I need to start up a new discussion about this topic, or can I just drop my two cents about it without the need to go over everything again?".

In a not-so-active community, necro'ing is anyway almost impossible to pull out unless that's your main intent - e.g. if the topic is "Tips about being a good ZM", it's going to be very hard to necro that, but if the topic is "Should we remove map X?" and the decision has been taken 3 months ago, then you're just being stupid.

Ban Request / Re: [ZM] "The Muslim" griefing

He's been banned by Pyro apparently ( http://clans.ultimategamehost.com/36786c3a/bans/index.php?p=banlist&searchText=STEAM_0:0:36548609&Submit )

That settles it - thank you very much Pyro!

If I'm not mistaken, Inject lifted the requirements of the post counts to apply for admin role (or at least it became more flexible), so there's not really a point anymore in trying to bloat your post count.

The point behind the "no necro'ing" rule you find on most forums is actually to stimulate new discussions - if you have an opinion about something and post it in an old thread, people might start arguing about exactly the same elements again; however if you create a new topic, it increases the chances of starting a discussion fresh with new points of views and ideas.
"Necro'ing" however is not only about posting in an "old" thread; it's about posting in a thread that has already been buried by new threads for some time (e.g. page 6 of the list of topics).

It's difficult to apply either here because there isn't enough activity to "bury old threads" or "recreate a new discussion about an already discussed topic". It might actually be better to post your opinion/idea on an "old" thread than create a new one.

There are rules, and then there are the circumstances. In a small, not-very-active community like CG, there's no point in upholding the rules as the divine law to be followed in any and all situations, especially when the circumstances make some of them ridiculous. Not trying to be a dick neither, but please think about:

- What harm that reply in a "dead" topic does;
- The sense it makes to see 50% of the posts over 1 day (that is, one post in the whopping two posts of that day) being a reminder to "not necro";
- Why such a rule about necroing exists and what the true goal of it is.

Admin Applications / Re: [ANY] Pyro
« on: April 03, 2014, 03:49:45 PM »
We're going to jump from [No admins in months] to [3 admins in 2 weeks' time], it's gonna be weird x)
But anyhow any help with the ZM server is most definitely welcome - an extra player is already great, but a seasoned admin is all the better!

I received one IG complaint tonight about you stating that you've been seen griefing/trolling (e.g. blocking pathways). There's no proof so we're not going to do anything based on wild accusations, but in the case they have basis, please be cautious of such acts that can damage the fun of other players.

Again, I'm not pointing any fingers here since there's no concrete proof, but I just want to add that if we receive a documented complaint or witness a trolling behaviour in-game from someone who made an application to become an admin, I will advocate a more severe punishment than for a "regular" griefer. Please thus be cautious.

Ah! Well in any case, any extra player is more than welcome on the ZM server, seeing as it's usually far from being full :3

Hello Jamira,

I have to agree with Pyro here, it's not a very detailed application. It'd be nice to hear a bit more about you and why you think you'd make a good admin on the ZM servers.

In addition, I would like to point out the minimum requirements described in http://www.conjointgaming.com/forum/index.php?topic=8.0 ; please make sure to check them.
